Rascal Flatts will be formally inducted into the Grand Ole Opry cast on Saturday night (Oct. 8). During the group's performance there on Sept. 27, Vince Gill surprised them with the invitation.

Stunned by the offer, singer Gary LeVox told the crowd, "You know, we've gotten to do a lot of amazing things in our career -- like going to Iraq and visiting our soldiers, selling out arenas and doing a lot of magnificent things that ... you can't even dream that big. But all three of us grew up listening to the Opry: Jay with his grandfather, me with my grandmother and Joe Don with his entire family. You can't even put into words what this means to us. When we first signed our record deal in 1999, our main goal was to play the Grand Ole Opry and someday be members of the Grand Ole Opry."

Gill praised the band in an interview that night with CMT Insider, saying, "It's always fun to see people you like succeed, and they've succeeded in grand fashion over the last 12 years. It's been fun to watch, and I'm just grateful that they have a heart and a love for this place out here."

In addition, Gill noted, "There's going to be people going, 'Well, they're not very country' ... but the fact is, they've been great for country music, made some great records, recorded some great songs, and that's what country music is about. It's not about whether it's all traditional or all contemporary or all Southern rock. Everyone's going to try to pigeonhole it, whatever it is, but Gary's a great singer. They're great musicians, and they make some great music together."

Since 2000, Rascal Flatts have charted 25 Top 10 singles, including 11 No. 1 hits.
